1. Understand the Query Plan 2. Check the possibility of adding more indexes 3. Look at possibility of restructuring the query to optimize. 3a. If there are queries with joins and using large tables, filter the data first and then join. 3b. Avoid sorting the data first and then joining. 3c. Remove unwanted / unused indexes (check query plan). 3d. When using functions while joining, create function indexes. 3e. Avoid selection of unnecessary columns to avoid network transfer of large data. 4. Use observability tools like ELK, Grafana to log all application related activities and see which queries are running slow. 5. check DB observability to help you what is the major cause of slowness. Is it memory, CPU, table blocks, etc.
