'Metrics are so boring!' Using humor that addresses why your audience is disengaged can bring them back around. Now they know that you know! They don't have to pretend. The key to this approach is to be able to make 'metrics' (or any topic) relevant to them and interesting. In my case, health coaching metrics, were made relatable by focusing on patient outcomes. This is something coaches care deeply about. When I connected a positive (by the metrics) coaching experience with improved outcomes for a patient (using an anonymized profile), that made it real. When a coach hears that Mrs. X was walking around her block with a friend every day (at age 85!) after working with her coach for 8 weeks, that's pretty inspiring.

One thing I have found helpful over the years during facilitation is to always observe the body language and facial expressions of my participants. Boredom, tiredness, and hunger can make participants disinterested. To get their attention, I propose using energizers, which I will conduct or request a volunteer to catch their attention. Another important tip is to role-play during your session. It keeps them engaged and on their feet. Lastly, involving participants in group activities helps keep them interested.
