-
Yes it’s all about who you hire. Their work ethics, leadership, mental toughness and their ability to work with others as a team
-
Consistent feedback, supportive environment and recognise their achievements and experience with remuneration reviews. Turnover is so high in sport, and expectations from customers are relentless - you need to maintain organisational knowledge not just in strategy but in operations as well.

I always strive to teach my team something new and challenge them consistently. I have a good story about a top talent we acquired—he knew he was skilled, but he almost quit the next day because he felt it was ‘too difficult to learn something new and out of his comfort zone.’ I assured him that he was a vital part of the team and deserved the opportunity. I spent many hours with him, challenging his creative mind, asking him to develop, and exploring more ways to expand the same idea. He thrived and now leads shifts. It’s always about believing in talent, guiding them to greatness, and helping them shine when their hearts are in the right place.

Keeping talents hungry and motivated means setting challenging yet achievable goals, celebrating small wins, and providing ongoing growth opportunities. Offering constructive feedback, recognizing effort, and fostering a culture of purpose and progress helps maintain drive and enthusiasm.
-
It’s all about attitude, work ethic, intelligence and listening ability. Find someone with these four attributes and you have found a winner.
