Was there a misalignment between the prospect's needs and what you offered? Did you miss a key detail in your initial conversation? Honest reflection helps us learn and grow. It’s not about dwelling on the failure but understanding what went wrong so we can improve our approach next time. Reach out to the prospect and seek feedback if possible. This shows that you value their perspective and are committed to bettering your service. Admitting when something didn’t go as planned isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a step towards building trust.

This is first and foremost data-driven. I always recommend graphing and charting for self-analysis so you can understand your strategy in a quantitative manner. When you compare successful and unsuccessful customer journeys, do they differ at certain points? Did you do X one time, and Y another? How were the prospects different, e.g. size, lead, value? Before experimenting with a new technique, take the time to identify with numbers what aspects have already worked for you, or not worked. This will save time shouting at the wind.

A good practice is to dedicate time in your workweek for work-based learning, or if it suits you better, to follow your thoughts in the moment. Learning with a quick google question, or taking a course via something like LinkedIn or Coursera, can help you stay on top of new ideas and skills.
