As it’s rightly mentioned, establish clear communication. I’d add, ensure that the vendor is interested and invested in the topic. Use a game theory approach to drive value where unified terms benefit both the parties. While planning tight deadlines, ascertain the risk (calculated and un calculated) and have mitigation plan ready for calculated and scenario testing done for un-calculated. Keep every stakeholder informed (mainly the one on the task - Managers need to be informed, the person on field is responsible for action :) ). Encourage rewarding good work (both internal and external teams) - this is not going to be your only project ;)
