You’re working on a project with a tight deadline. What’s the best way to make sure you deliver it on time?

Sometimes you work on projects as big as 10000+ words (about 1000 CAT Tool segments). Mark 10 sections of 100 segments each. Translate the first 100 segments. Go back and review them thoroughly. Do the same with the 9 remaining ones. Should you have the time, read through your whole translated document and see if you feel comfortable with the result. Run all relevant checks (for example, spelling checks, Xbench QA checks, Trados Studio QA Checks, Trados Studio Export for Bilingual Review feature, etc.). They are handy resources to improve the quality of your translation. Do not deliver back your work until you are confident that everything was covered.

I find that revisions by paragraph or so, right after you translate it, makes it faster and you make sure it's perfect. One last full revision some time after finishing goes a long way, so the right tools will make it easier for you to comply with the due date and make sure the end product is what your client expects.

Lors de vos pauses, reposez aussi vos yeux ! Quand vous prenez vos pauses, détachez vos yeux des écrans, fa?tes en sorte d'étendre votre regard à 10 mètres ou plus (en regardant à travers une fenêtre, par exemple). Je conseille un ratio d'une minute par heure. Si vous avez travaillé pendant une heure d'affilée sur votre PC avant votre pause, étendez votre regard au loin pendant au moins une minute. Une autre manière de reposer vos yeux consiste à mettre les paumes de vos mains dessus pour les plonger dans l'obscurité. Comptez au moins 2 minutes pour cette méthode. Alterner entre ces deux méthodes (regard au loin + paumes sur les yeux) permet de réduire drastiquement la fatigue mentale après une journée de travail, d'après mon expérience.

No exceptions, unless you’re in a wheelchair, then just wheel away, no excuses, no exceptions.

La méthode Pomodoro (25 minutes de travail, 5 minutes de pause) est contre-productive pour beaucoup de gens, moi compris. Si vous êtes le genre de personne qui peut rester concentré pendant 1 ou 2 heures sans les sentir passer et qu'un minuteur réglé sur 25 minutes casse votre rythme et vous fait perdre le fil, alors je vous conseille plut?t de procéder par taches. Si vous ne sentez pas vraiment de différence entre 45 minutes ou 2 heures à effectuer une tache, alors prendre un pause après chaque tache pourrait vous convenir mieux (et pour le temps de pause, basez-vous sur votre ressenti : si après 5 minutes, vous sentez que ce n'est pas assez, alors rajoutez 5 ou 10 minutes et constatez la différence).
