When working in civil projects, is very common to need certain calculations or values duplicated in various locations, over the years I have found that human error was the number one cause of mistakes on the data entered. It can happen to everyone, after all, we're all human, and a finger slipping after hours of changing the same name in all sheets can happen to everyone, I think for everyone this should be number one reason to consider automating data entry, only once should be enough to populate all documents and sheets.

The current state of the software allows to reach a scenario where data has to be entered only once, unfortunately, the urgency of things get to all of us, so we just continue struggling with issues like this, and not taking fully advantage of our CAD software, and the integration it offers with other applications. Take some time and dig into it, if needed, look into other ways of automating data entry, like databases, and even simple excel sheets, is really astounding what technology can do for us in this regard.

Which scenario is best? Entering the same data over and over for hundreds of sheets, or entering it once, and have the chance to double and triple check it before populating it to all documents? While one may be skeptical of the time needed in the beginning to automate this, me and thousands other professionals can attest that this type of measures WILL save money and time in the long run. Not only that, any change in the titles, values and other data that needs to be updated can be done in minutes, collaborators will no longer have to worry about having the latest data, they can become more productive and worry less about this type of things.
