The Eisenhower Matrix is a very simple and straightforward tool to quickly and effectively organise IT service operations. It works for project deliveries, help desk, individually or as a group. Urgent and important tasks are usually the ones with the highest impact on people or finances. It is important to understand what is critical, whether it is availability, performance, functionality. Are there many people impacted? Is a business function suffering? Will the action yield a big positive impact? If it is important but you cannot do it, delegate to somebody else who can highlighting the urgency. What is important, but not urgent can be done later at a specified time and if it is not important nor urgent, why are you even seeing it?

In the fast-paced IT world, prioritizing tasks is key. I advocate for the Eisenhower Matrix to categorize tasks by urgency and importance, enhancing focus and efficiency. Remember, if everything's urgent, nothing is.

What I do currently to make the most of my time at work as an IT personnel 1. I simply make a To-do list. Everything that comes up for the day also gets added to the list 2. I assign priority to the items on my list based on their impact 3. I look at the task that require me to meet with someone else to complete and I reach out to schedule a meeting ahead of time so they will be no delay when I’m ready to do my bit 4. I check off the activities done and check to see if I meet the timelines I have assigned to them 5. I then take breaks in between and adjust timelines as necessary
