I have worked with one Machine Tool Industry as a Mechanical Design Engineer before. During product design sometimes we do not have idea how big model will look in physical space , or when any certain portion of the model comes out how much space it will take we dont have idea about it. That problem can be solve easily with the help of AR Prototyping.

I think a great example of a tool that utilizes VR is gravity sketch. IT allows you to sketch out your ideas in 3D space, and you can invite stakeholders from all over the globe to view and comment on your CAD model. You can also place the model in AR space which can be great to get a sense of proportion. I imagine this will a new standard in the future as the price for VR headsets drop.

Machine tool industry or Automobile industry have to make physical model during tech expo. The cost involving for making that prototype and transportation is huge. That problem can be solve easily with the help of VR. As well by making virtual functional prototype of the model you are able to get user feedback before making real prototype.

I remember, when I was working as Mechanical Design Engineer in Machine Toll industry. We have to prepare size layout diagram of each machine and have to send it to the client. Client takes the measurement of their floor and we get approval. The chances of mistakes is too high in this case.
