First of all, writing design briefs is hard. Doing a power point is easier coz you don’t need to explicitly describe the thought process and how to arrived at the design decisions. Whereas with a document you have to be clear yourself the thought process and then wrote them down in such a way that all readers(especially steakholders) understand it. In my experience, divide and conquer each area. For example, once I had to write a design document on a Kubernetes application. I divided it into observability, security, scaling etc. and then write each section on why I designed the way I did. And to repeat a cliche - the more you write design docs, the better you get!

Any hack is a short-cut and that means that task is being done more efficiently than the system currently allows. Embrace the hacks. Turn them into tools so users no longer need to hack. And if they do find a hack to the newly hacked setup... hack it again and again and keep evolving.

Usually when you sit down to start writing a design brief you feel blank and it looks very hard to write the first few pages. A good practice is write unintentionally. Think every now and then about the design flow and dedign steps and relevant details. Brain storming works best when you are not focusing on writing instead you are thinking randomly. Start taking notes of whatever sketch arises in you mind on your cell phone. In a few days you'll have enough content with an amazing flow. But this approach works best when you are not facing deadlines ahead.
