Always store a backup or a revision. This will help you eventually when you lose your actual work or when you are time confined and have to undo changes which are too time consuming. Also this will be helpful in cases of conflicts.

Version History is most important as every designer must keep design history, they can keep a copy of each version and upload it on drive or there are many online cad software like fusion 360 which automatically store the versions just like Google sheets, you can go back to the version you want. But in many softwares you don't get this feature therefore you have to keep track of your own design versions.
