As alluded to in earlier comments to this article, you should plan far enough in advanced to know when deadlines are due and to work into your schedule time for delays and contingencies. Procrastination on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part. That being said, too often in the nonprofit world, we are rushing from one emergency to the next, and planning is a luxury. Because of the lessons I've learned through experiences, I advise my clients to take the time to prepare and to plan before taking action. The military calls it "readiness," and that is why they constantly train.
