You're struggling to keep your students engaged. How can you make learning fun and effective?

In addressing the challenge of student engagement, I would incorporate gamification to make learning both enjoyable and effective. Setting clear objectives aligned with educational goals, creating a compelling narrative using interactive technologies, fostering friendly competition and integrating rewards and recognition systems are key aspects. However, it's crucial to emphasize that gamification serves as an add-on for retention and recapitulation, not as a replacement for the instructor or core knowledge. The approach is designed to enhance the learning experience, offering students a dynamic and personalized journey while maintaining the essential role of traditional instruction and foundational knowledge.

On our video based training platform we add quiz after each video to ensure reinforcement of people memory. It is easy for the admin to add - and easy for the user to answer ;)

A learner learns through texts, audio, video or by doing it themselves. Doing things themselves is considered or believed a more effective way of learning. One way gamification can bring effective learning experiences to learners is by allowing them to practice it. This also reinforces the knowledge and makes it effective. Engaging students that appear resistant is a 5-90-5 scenario? 5% will love you, 5% will never engage, and 90% will engage "IF" you convince them that you can be trusted and have something worth listening to. My biggest advice to teachers and lecturers to increase attention and application of the learning is to skill up on presentation skills. Students are DESPERATE for you to be engaging, and in my experience (23yrs presenting to over 1.2 million students and staff globally as a motivational speaker) I find that the biggest reason students do not engage, is because the presenter is not engaging? Time to step up in the skills of presenting. It is more likely to be about us than it is about them.
