Ditch the solo studying and foster knowledge-sharing through team projects and discussions. Think co-working for the brain!

Prior to mapping out professional development initiatives, a comprehensive assessment of both your target audience and organizational needs is paramount. Delving into the gaps, strengths, and areas for improvement within current practices provides a foundation for effective planning. Understanding the goals and priorities of stakeholders is equally essential. To conduct a thorough needs assessment, leverage diverse tools like surveys, interviews, focus groups, observations, and data analysis. These instruments illuminate the most pertinent and pressing topics, formats, and methods, facilitating the creation of tailored professional development programs that directly address identified needs and maximize impact.

It is crucial to understand the gaps in your training programme. One aspect that is oft overlooked is that of senior leadership. Most schools will focus on teaching or middle leadership but, actually forget that they need to concern themselves with succession planning at the top!

Programme design needs to fit the needs of the participants and the school. In my opinion this is best seen when you work with theory, orient yourself around examples and then have the opportunity to put it into practice.
