3 Feedback types

There are two main types of feedback: formative and summative. Formative feedback is ongoing and informal, and it aims to help you improve your communication skills during the process. For example, you can ask for formative feedback from your colleagues before submitting a report or delivering a presentation. Summative feedback is final and formal, and it evaluates your communication outcomes at the end of the process. Feedback could be given during or before the event mostly infomal(formative feedback) Feedback could also be given after the event mostly formal (summative) Irrespective of the type of feedback, it’s important to pay key attention to them and work towards improvement.

4 Feedback criteria

To make feedback effective and useful, you need to have clear and specific criteria for evaluating your communication skills. You can use different frameworks or models to guide your feedback, such as the 7 Cs of communication, the SMART criteria, or the STAR method. For instance, you can assess whether your communication is clear, concise, correct, complete, coherent, courteous, and convincing (the 7 Cs), or whether it is specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely (the SMART criteria).

I believe feedback is effective and useful when it follows the 7C’s concept clear, concise, correct, complete, coherent, courteous, and convincing A feedback shouldn’t attack the individual personally, it should be directed towards the subject.
