Feedback is always neutral. If it lands for us we simply take it and use it to learn and move forward. If the feedback doesn’t land we let it go. The source of where the feedback is coming from also matters. Having open communication with our clients is key. As a coach it is important to always come from a place of curiosity.

In my opinion to regain the confidence of a client 1. Understand the actual pain point of the client. 2. Take the client feedback in a constructive way. Take feedback as frequently as possible. 3. Revisit the lessons learnt from this client and also refer your experience with such clients. 4. Provide a realistic timelines by correctly understanding the requirements and pains. 5. Never give timelines which makes client happy but realistically not achievable. As at the end the trust between the both of will disappear. 6. Design & Consultation should be convincing not confusing. 6. Be honest and clear on the possibilities.

The rule of coaching is 90-10. Over 8 years I have come to be at peace with the fact that 1-2 out of 10 clients will not find the coaching session relevant / helpful / continue to remain connected and the feedback is going to come with that energy It is the law of averages and we coaches are humans too. My go-to baseline question is “Why am I doing this” - the intention gets cleared and you go in with the humility and energy to try and make a difference in the next clients life!

Embrace the feedback: View it as a learning opportunity rather than criticism. Reflect on value: Identify what you can improve and how it benefits your coaching. Stay adaptable: Be open to adjusting your approach based on insights gained. Celebrate growth: Acknowledge your progress and resilience through challenges. A growth mindset turns challenges into stepping stones for improvement and success.

Challenging feedback from clients can be daunting, but I’ve learned to embrace it using Carol Dweck’s "Growth Mindset" framework. During one of my coaching projects, I received feedback about my communication style. Instead of being discouraged, I reframed it as a learning opportunity. By actively seeking clarification and understanding the core of the criticism, I implemented small but impactful changes. Setting SMART goals helped me track progress and continuously improve. For further growth, "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" by Carol Dweck is a valuable read. Feedback is like sharpening a pencil—it might be uncomfortable, but it makes you more precise! ????
