Mindfulness can effectively help you recognize and address biases in client relationships by enhancing self-awareness and empathy. It allows you to pause and reflect on your interactions, identifying any automatic judgments or assumptions that may influence your behavior. Through mindfulness, you learn to approach each client as unique, minimizing the impact of stereotypes and past experiences. By fostering empathy, mindfulness also deepens your understanding of clients' perspectives and needs, helping build stronger, more equitable relationships. Regular mindfulness practice ensures that you remain present and genuine in every interaction, thus gradually overcoming biases and improving the quality of your client engagements.

Mindfulness can be used in a reflexive toolkit. Mindfulness offers a space to observe biases and approach them with a sense of curiosity. This practice can bring a sense of awareness and even increased understanding of biases. With this awareness it is then easier to bracket the bias, thus broadening the scope for relationship formation.

Mindfulness can help manage frustration when a therapist feels a client refuses to change their ways or acknowledge their role in a problem. For example, if a client consistently blames others and ignores advice, the therapist may feel frustrated or judgmental. Mindfulness allows the therapist to pause and notice these feelings without reacting impulsively. By observing their emotions non-judgmentally, the therapist can shift focus back to the client, seeking to understand their perspective. This helps the therapist respond with empathy and patience, fostering a more productive and positive relationship.
