The first step to improve your leadership skills is to know yourself. What are your core values, your vision, and your goals? What are your strengths and areas of improvement as a team builder? How do you handle feedback, conflict, and stress? You can use various tools and methods to assess yourself, such as personality tests, 360-degree feedback, SWOT analysis, or coaching. By identifying your strengths and weaknesses, you can leverage your talents and address your gaps.
It is all about the team Choose team members who compliment your weaknesses and turn them into strengths by trusting them and delegating and not over showing weakness by saying ut is a strength
Self-awareness is fundamental to becoming a strong leader and appreciating that everyone is different in the workplace. Discussing openly with your team your strengths and weaknesses will make them feel comfortable about their own. Assembling a team with different skill set is for me essential to optimize the performance and minimize the gaps
From my prospective leadership is a journey, and it takes time and effort to become a great leader. Most of the leaders are not aware about their main job. They think that their job is to take care of the business but in reality their job is to take care of the people who are taking care of the business. Developing your leadership require self-awareness: Leadership starts with understanding yourself. Continuously learn and grow, Learn how to communicate and learn how to be good listener, Build strong relationships with your team, Be a role model, empower others and Develop your emotional intelligence. There are numerous actions to be taken to improve your leadership but what I have mentioned I think the most crucial.
Read the book Make Bold Things Happen. This will give you examples of how to network and build your network so that you able to solve any problem.
Create a positive impression through your conversations - Always keep your conversations at a higher level. For this, you need to be well-read. Be authentic! Please refrain from creating and giving any false ipression. People will begin to trust you. Achieve mastery in your subject-matter - This is a non-negotiable thing. You need to be completely knowledgeable on your subject. You should always have a rational as well as practical perspective. Good understanding of environment - Do not be judgemental or do not draw conjectures but start reading people, their management and leadership style. You must also throughly understand the business you are consulting with - their value chain. Helps you make sense when you talk, so people will listen.
The second step to improve your leadership skills is to learn from others. You can find mentors, coaches, or peers who have more experience or expertise in team building and leadership. You can ask them for advice, feedback, or support. You can also join professional networks, communities, or associations related to team building and leadership. You can participate in events, workshops, or webinars where you can exchange ideas, insights, and best practices. By learning from others, you can expand your knowledge and skills.
It's essential to take a proactive approach to building a strong network of mentors, advisors and sponsors. Carefully curate a group of people who can support, guide and empower you. The ideal mentor is someone just a step or two ahead of you on the career path you are taking. They can offer advice, introductions and a sympathetic ear. Advisors can come in many forms. You might seek out a formal coach for detailed and personalized guidances and/or take courses, read articles and books for deeply researched, expert advice. A sponsor is a person who is willing and able to open doors for you that you cannot yet open for yourself. If you have at least 1 person in each of these 3 categories supporting your growth you will see dramatic change.
Having a good coach, mentor & friend who speaks truth is essential. Building top performing teams requires bringing together people who think differently, which is not natural or easy. Helping others build teams requires experience in working with professionals who think differently than we do. As I endeavored to build a great team when running a business, I began participating in meetings with groups of people who had a different background, race, culture, etc. then I did and I mostly just listened. I forced myself not to problem solve, but to actively listen and try to understand others perspectives. Asking questions & listening showed that I cared & enabled me to attract & ultimately build a strong team that produced great results.
Reading provides the ability to lead. Reading new concepts theories and ideas from the well known leaders build capacity to lead team with great ease
Never underestimate what you can learn from other people. When you find someone who inspires you, find out what they are doing, ask them questions and emulate the process. There is nothing new under the sun. Take full advantage of all resources around you.

The power of observation is underestimated. Simply attending and auditing a course or a workshop can provide a completely different experience and perspective, therefore enhancing and growing your skill set.
The third step to improve your leadership skills is to practice what you preach. You can apply the same principles and techniques that you teach to your clients to your own business and team. You can set clear goals, communicate effectively, delegate tasks, motivate others, and celebrate successes. You can also model the behaviors and attitudes that you want to see in your team, such as trust, respect, accountability, and creativity. By practicing what you preach, you can demonstrate your credibility and competence.
This is only leadership principle that is not negotiable. You must lead by example reflecting the company culture and your own value need to match . This might sound obvious but unfortunately ,we all have witnessed example of wrongdoing at work . It require leaders with a strong ethic and value as well as clear guidelines and expectations.
I have often found that I give more gracious advice to others than I give to myself. I encourage others to make bold moves to increase their visibibility, to be seen heard, and understood. When I am willing to follow that same advice and expect good things in return, I usually get the results I would like. By modeling the behaviors I want to see in others, I grow and it is easier to then gain credibility and the respect of my team.
If you won’t do it, then how can you expect others to? Get real! To maintain respect, integrity and credibility you have to walk the walk. Get your hands dirty. Get involved. You might be as good as your team, but you’ll never be better. You have to earn trust. It can take a long time to achieve it but you can lose it in a heartbeat if you pitch it wrong. In my experience you have to be open and cooperative. Be the person you’d like to be led by.
I was never the sharpest developer or the most clever problem solver but I showed up every day. Be the rock. Show up every day. Be honest. Be dependable. Be kind. Be there for your team.
Being true to yourself and following through on your promises is what sets you apart from others. Let your authenticity shine through and inspire those around you to do the same.

You can also set specific and realistic goals for your own development and track your progress. By seeking feedback and improvement, you can enhance your quality and effectiveness.
As leaders in organizations we tend to try and prove ourselves versus improve oursleves. It's a natural feeling to think you need to have all the answers as a leader. Instead, become comfortable not to necessarily have all the answers but the willingness and approach to find them. Not only will your people respect you for it but they'll begin to realize learning can happen at all levels of healthy organizations - even at the top!
In my experience the best way of learning and growing is seeking feedback from others, which helps us in understanding our strengths and weakness. Analyse your weakness and work towards improving it.

Challenging ourselves to innovate is NOT the reason my team building company has been able to survive for over 25 years…but it is the reason it has been able to thrive! As professionals we believe that we ALWAYS have to be the experts. If you keep that mindset, you’ll naturally be less inclined to innovate. Innovation will lead to mistakes. Deal with it. I knew it would help me manage tasks, improve sales and make me a better manager. My colleagues kept asking when the company was going to buy them one. I bought it for myself because it would make me better. I have always done that. Invest in yourself , don’t wait for someone else to provide it for you. It’s your life, your improvement, your growth and responsibility to yourself. This example shows people your willingness to do whatever it takes to grow and improve.

Inspire others by showing that you are the leader, ask for input, but make it clear that you will make the final decision and expect everyone to get behind the decision even if the decision is contrary to their input. Strong leaders are inspirational and will build a team!
One thing I have found helpful is getting the team to see the bigger picture, which will allow both the lead and those being lead to to take ownership of the task at hand. A leader must be able to train team members to take up responsibilities, make mistakes and learn from them.
My personal Suggestions : Enhance the ability to understand and manage emotions, as well as those of others. Emotional intelligence is crucial for building rapport, resolving conflicts, and motivating team members effectively.
In 1983 when I started my business, I was told “don’t look for the money, look for the applause. If you create something of value, the money will come.” It has served me well for the last 45 years.
“A closed mouth catches no flies” This proverb emphasizes the importance of open communication. If you don't speak up or express yourself, you won't be able to address issues or seize opportunities. Effective communication involves actively participating in conversations and sharing your thoughts Without effective communication one can’t become good leader so you should convey ideas clearly, actively listen to team members, and provide constructive feedback.
Growth is a process, not an event; therefore, it's important to remember to make changes incrementally and not feel pressure-packed to make all the necessary changes at once.
In my experience, truly understanding the demands of your team, how they spend their time and asking them the barriers that they see that inhibit them from optimally fulfilling their roles are the first steps in building the team. It’s key to building trust.
