I say you call it out baldly up front and not try to hide you haven’t talked in a long time. Be transparent and make it cute. Hey old so and so, yes this is one of those times where you haven’t heard from me in a long while but I do have a favor to ask. Then make sure they know that you value them, and offer to do the same in future regardless of how much time goes by. Keep it simple, don’t over complicate it. People generally are excited to hear from you unless you were an awful or unpleasant coworker. In which case… you probably are not looking for good advice on how to connect right now and will most likely be ghosted anyway.

If you’re searching for a new job, the key is to optimize your CV in the ATS format or else it will be very hard to land a job: the experience need to be written clearly and the achievements as well????

When you are reconnecting with an old contact, focus on them first. Ask them how they are, check in with what they are doing now. Take some time to learn about where they are at. Ask how you can help them. Nobody likes someone to message out of the blue just because they want something from you. Focus on rebuilding the trust and ask about them and how you can help, before asking them for something. Another good tip is if you think of someone, even someone you haven't spoken to in a while, reach out and ask how they are doing. Show that you care.

Getting back in touch with colleagues to check in and take an interest in their journey is a great way to reconnect. When we are interested in others we natural enhance our connection and who knows where and who it could lead to.
-
When reconnecting with an old contact for career opportunities, start by reaching out with a friendly, personalized message that acknowledges your previous relationship. Be clear about your intentions, whether you’re seeking advice, insights about their company, or potential job leads. Offering to catch up over coffee or a virtual meeting can create a more personal connection. Remember to be grateful and open during the conversation!
