As a headhunter in IT the biggest challenge for sr. managers is their pack of clarity on their real needs when looking for a leader/manager. The job description is the key to filling the role, it is less for the applicant then it is for you. The most effective job desc. Starts with a glowing annual review for year 1 and year 2. Are you hiring your replacement? Is there room to grow? A great hire has a clear picture from you about what the requirements for winning are. The new hire is great, what is the reward? Raises, bonuses, promotion? Until you are clear on what must be accomplished interviewing becomes too much of a challenge. "I'll know who when I see them." That really doesn't work and you know it. Clarity on your part is key.
