The employee also feels accepted on their terms and doesn't have to get nervous every day about that.

When we support the demands of work and life as a priority, we create a more positive and productive work environment, which leads to higher levels of engagement and productivity. As project managers, we need to ensure our plans account for this, as it sets clear, achievable expectations for work deliverables and deadlines, allowing team members to plan their time effectively at work and off work and reducing stress.

This is an area I have struggled with my entire career. I struggle with personal work-life balance, however I push my teams to have it. In the end, I realized that the "do as I say, not as I do" attitude was not supporting me or my teams. Now, I strive to emulate healthy behaviour with respect to work-life balance and believe that the entire team produces better results when they are rested, and healthy.

?? By establishing a Team Charter together with the team members can play an important role to keep the team engaged and motivated. ??♂? One of the topics that should be discussed is how the team will set a proper work-life balance. For example, by establishing boundaries in the volume of the backlog; working hours limits; how they are going to work (if need it) in the Bank Holidays and weekends during peak stages of the project/program. How the team will be awarded for those extra hours; how will be the support of the team to compensate for extra hours that may need. ?? It is all about transparency, honesty and psychological safety as "the basics" for other things happen properly.

Build a clear understanding of each team member's role and the broader purpose of their work. Implement flexible working arrangements, such as remote work options and flexible hours, to accommodate personal commitments. Regularly communicate project goals and how each role contributes to the bigger picture, fostering a sense of purpose. Encourage breaks and downtime to prevent burnout. By understanding and supporting your team's needs outside of work, you reinforce their value, leading to increased motivation and commitment.
