Para poder identificar al mentor que necesitas se requiere de cierta habilidad y en primer lugar de tener la apertura y humildad para pedir ayuda, consejo o diálogos con alguien que seguramente sabe más que tú y/o que tiene más experiencia. La riqueza del mentor radica en los conocimientos y experiencias que puede compartirte y en la guía que puede dar para tomar el camino correcto. Un mentor no necesariamente es un superior o un consultor empresarial, nos sorprenderíamos de los lugares en donde podemos encontrar mentores que nos pueden ayudar a dar el siguiente paso en nuestros proyectos y en nuestra organización. Habrá que tener los ojos bien abiertos para poder identificar a un mentor cuando nos hemos encontrado con él.

Tenemos que ser conscientes de que no lo sabemos todo y que por más inteligentes o formados que estemos siempre habrá personas que tienen mayores conocimientos o experiencia en distintas áreas. Una de las claves más importantes que puede aportar un mentor es el darnos puntos de vista distintos al nuestro, áreas que no habíamos contemplado o posibles problemas que no habíamos identificado. El dialogar con un mentor nos ayudará a tener una visión más global y completa que nos permita mejorar los proyectos y aumentar las posibilidades de éxito.

Finding a mentor doesn't have to be difficult - you just need to be proactive, curious, and respectful. To help you grow as a project leader, start by defining your learning objectives - be specific and realistic. Then, identify potential mentors who have the qualities, skills, or experience that you admire or aspire to. Look within your organization, network, industry, or community; you can also use online platforms like LinkedIn to search for mentors based on your criteria. 4 How to make the most of your mentorship?

Once you have found a mentor who will help you grow as a project leader, you need to ensure that you make the most of this opportunity. To maximize your learning and benefit from your mentorship, set SMART goals with your mentor and discuss how you will measure and evaluate them. Furthermore, seek feedback and advice from your mentor on your performance, challenges, and decisions. Don't be afraid to ask for help or clarification if needed. Additionally, share your successes and challenges with your mentor - they are there to both teach you and support you in celebrating your growth. Lastly, be respectful and grateful for their time, energy, and expertise. Respect their availability, preferences, and boundaries, expressing appreciation for their mentorship and giving them feedback on how they are helping you.

He tenido la posibilidad de ser mentor de lideres de proyectos y un indicador de que la relación mentor-mentee está funcionando, se da cuando: .- Ambos perciben un crecimiento y aprendizaje. .- Cuando la experiencia del mentor, que se ha obtenido en diferentes circunstancias, son traspasadas al mentee y éste logra adaptarlas e implementarlas en su entorno y con sus habilidades. Con los ajustes requeridos y acordados entre ambos. Esta relación de mentor-mentee no es unidireccional ni tampoco profesor alumno, todo lo contrario, se basa en aprovechar al máximo ambas experiencias y circunstancias para la aplicación adecuada de las mismas en el día a día. Tanto en lo técnico como lo social.

5 How to end your mentorship?

Your mentorship is not meant to last forever. It is a dynamic and evolving relationship that will change as you grow as a project leader. Therefore, there will come a time when you will need to end your mentorship, either because you have achieved your goals or because your needs or circumstances have changed. To end your mentorship gracefully and positively, review your goals and outcomes, celebrate your growth, and plan your next steps. Take the time to look back at your initial learning objectives and evaluate how well you have met them. Acknowledge and recognize the role of your mentor in your journey, share success stories, testimonials, and feedback with them, and thank them for their support and guidance. Discuss with them what your next steps are, and how you will continue learning and developing. Ask them for any final tips, recommendations, or resources that will help you advance in your career. Also, ask them how you can stay in touch and maintain a positive relationship with them.

The process that I have found helpful is : Define Needs and Goals: Clarify what you need guidance on and what you want to achieve. Leverage Networks :Tap into our professional network Attend Events: Participate in industry events to meet potential mentors. Online Platforms: Use platforms like LinkedIn to connect with professionals. ( This is very useful) Direct Outreach: Reach out to professionals directly, explaining your situation and why you value their mentorship. Formal Programs: Explore formal mentorship programs within your organization or industry. Persistentence & Relationships : Be proactive and persistent and show value. Building rapport and relationships before asking for formal mentorship is also a key aspect.
