Thanks to NEP2020, changes are being brought in.. one of them being Technology. The teacher of yesterday has to become relevant today so has to upskill himself/herself. Today's teacher has to be the Ed Tech Specialist allowing technology into classrooms. True humans will not be replaced entirely but technology will aid the teacher to perform better, students can achieve the learning outcomes easily through positive intervention of humans cum tech. with technology teachers have to reinvent themselves. Yesterday's cutting technology has been replaced by today's breakthroughs. What ruled the roost yesterday has been taken by newer tools, strategies and methodology. Come on teachers ! keep evolving ! you can do it!!!!

In my country Papua New Guinea, mobile technology is slowly coming into dominance in many established schools. With ease of internet access, this makes platforms such as PhET Interactive Simulations a great tool to use to deliver inquiry based lessons and assessments. The same skills acquired from hands on practical tasks can be acquired through the use of mobile technology and the right software. Problems such as unavailability of physical apparatus is solved, dangers in handling highly toxic chemicals is eradicated, the mobile device becomes a laboratory that can be accessed multiple times, are just 3 advantages. There are many more. EdTech is a laboratory, a classroom or an entire mobile school at the exposure of a student and teacher

During my time as a math educator, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of technology in the classroom. By leveraging various digital platforms, educational apps, and interactive software, I have been able to create dynamic and engaging lessons that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities. These tools not only make math more accessible and relatable to students but also enable them to visualize abstract concepts, solve complex problems, and actively participate in their learning journey.

Instructional design is an often misunderstood role. Properly positioned in an institution, these people help develop quality courses and programs by drawing together various resources, tools, and personnel to create compelling and engaging course content. One of the most important skills an ID needs is these days is project management. They also need to be adept at accessibility and course quality standards. Understanding user interface/user interaction patterns is also a necessary skill, not to mention learning science and assessment theory. Instructional designers wear a variety of hats, making them an extremely variable resource.

An instructional designer is not necessarily tied to Educational Technologies. In fact, many IDs do work that is largely driven by instructor-led, coached, or on-the-job training. EdTech is only one possible delivery methodology, and that choice should be supported by evidence gathered in a Needs Assessment/Analysis.

In this role, there is a constant opportunity to innovate, to explore new educational technologies, to assess their potential, and to incorporate them into designs that challenge the boundaries of traditional education. In a lot of ways, instructional designers are the artistic force at work in order to ensure that educational products we produce aren't just tools for learning but instruments from which education can change its way of thinking.

As an instructional designer passionate about educational technology, you'll collaborate closely with teachers and administrators to enhance learning experiences. Your role involves aligning with the province's curriculum, integrating the latest technologies effectively. By understanding educators' goals, you design course materials that leverage technology for optimal learning outcomes. Demonstrating practical benefits and showing measurable results, you help stakeholders see how these tools improve engagement, comprehension, and academic performance. This collaborative approach ensures that educational technology enhances teaching practices, enriching the educational journey for all involved.

The importance of Instructional Design (ID) was first brought to my attention by a KPMG partner during an insightful conversation. She recommended the CPLP from ATD (now CPTD), funded by HRDF for Saudis. Recognizing the growing demand for ID professionals in KSA, I decided to go with KPMG's Certified Instructional Design Practitioner’s Course on July 31. This course, priced at around 2K SAR, promises to lay a strong foundation. My LinkedIn job market analysis shows that the demand for skilled ID professionals in KSA far exceeds the supply. Investing in certifications like CPTD, APTD, and others from Langevin, Coursera, and OLC can enhance your skills and make you more competitive, opening doors to career advancement and better salaries.

In my experience as an industry mentor for NSF I-CORPS process & launching a successful online e-learning subscription model used by 150 universities and over 250,000 users (recognized by the US Dept of Ed), I’d highly recommend two books: The Startup Owner’s Manual: A step-by-step guide for building a great company by Blank, & Business Model Generation by Osterwalder. It’s all about identifying a pain point (frequency/intensity) with a solution that may be experimentally validated by quantifiable/testable hypotheses by real customers from specific segments. What is a MVP (minimum viable product/service & feature set)-And the value proposition you are delivering! Test/iterate allow yourself to pivot! Rarely does a bus plan not change!

I have had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with some of the best EdTech Entrepreneurs in my previous role and what stood out to me as a quality is their ability to understand the tech and apply it to making business decisions like which market would be a good fit to expand or which user segment will be the primary versus secondary persona to adopt the platform etc. Having this delicate balance can give you the superpower to making great business decisions, faster.

Achievements of educational institutions are based on research and development (R&D). Educational Technology (EdTech) is crucial in this digital era. For example, you can learn and attend the webinar online anytime, anywhere. Digital Technologies could enhance knowledge, student satisfaction, and the outcome of learning effectiveness. In the 21st century, instructors and educators should use digital intelligence to be involved in teaching and learning and improve organizational performance for its sustainability. The collaboration between communities among educators and researchers could develop schools and universities based on sustainable development concepts (Digital intelligence comprises artificial intelligence and human intelligence).

I spent time alongside Researchers who dived much deeper into Education Technology space on how do students from India especially Tier 2 engineering college students learn? Do they take notes while learning or not? Do they prefer group study? What's their response when a renowned teachers versus a local teacher teaches the same subjects? How much cheating happens during online exams. As a R&D professional in the space you would answer many of these questions and influence the product development with this knowledge.

If you are a big-picture person like me, I would encourage taking both product and business related roles to understand different perspectives on why an Edtech solution. Example- As a product manager of an Edtech solution you think about user journey, persona, learning pathways, ease of use of the product, accessibility and ofcourse user experience. When you pivot to a business developer for EdTech you think about adoption, nuances of how different regions/clusters might have different ways to use your product. You think about differentiation, profitability, how to gain more partnerships for your product and acquire more users faster. This helped me develop a holistic understanding of the EdTech industry.

To produce good sustainable educational technology all of the roles suggested are important. It is also crucial that there is synergy, feedback and evaluation in the development cycle. If appropriate, for truly sustainable Ed tech the system should facilitate the role of the teacher in relation to assessment and feedback. Finally, an important area, often forgotten, is an holistic view of how these systems are implemented and sustained in relation to a whole school.

The answer really depends on your goals. If you want to reap the rewards of working hands-on with students, the teaching path with an Ed Tech specialty is best. If you want to have broad influence, you might choose policy. If you want to make specific improvements, you might choose R&D. If you want to make the most money, you might choose Entrepreneur. Each option has pros and cons you should weigh carefully.
