In a remote coding project, effective feedback is key to motivation. Be clear and specific about what needs improvement and what’s going well. In my opinion all project must control their resources - developers time is the main resource in the project . I Think we need to automate everything , and developer can using tools like AI , SACT , DACT ..... and many other different tools for their time optimization. In our company we using RAG technology and this approach help us moving 2 times faster .

When overseeing a project, whether remote or in-person, it’s crucial to first understand the project requirements. This understanding enables you to set achievable goals within the project timeline. By aligning these goals with the project’s objectives, you can effectively guide your team’s efforts. Draft goals using the SMART method and present them to your team for feedback, making any necessary adjustments.

It's critically important to first establish a relationship where the developers feel safe. Feedback has to be constructive and delivered in a forum that allows the team to have full participation in the design and spec for the solution required to achieve the desired product. I do daily meetings for developers to do a show-and-tell of their work. This doesn't have to take much time and allows them the opportunity to ask questions and get clarification, and to showcase good work. This tends to keep things on track and provides me with honest/timely status updates and the opportunity to get people what they need to be successful.

One helpful practice is setting up daily scrum meetings. These don’t need to be long but should focus on keeping track of ongoing tasks and catching challenges early. This approach provides quick updates on team performance and helps establish relationships in a remote setup.

This is the most critical element and rarely extends beyond the direct team. It's a key lesson for leaders to understand that positive reinforcement has a multiplier impact where as all other controls such as goals, peer review and especially constructive feedback have a small impact and often negative if not done correctly.

Additionally to Constrctive Criticism it's important to ensure clear communication and mutual understanding. This can be achieved by having small checks to confirm what you said, what was understood, and what was implemented. Sharing code templates for reference can be very helpful in setting clear expectations. Finally, ensure you fully understand and can explain the standards you're advocating. Many people set standards they can't clearly articulate or follow, which can lead to confusion and frustration.

Learn the art and science of providing open feedbacks that has 0% criticisms. Place oneself in the recipient shoes and evaluate as achieving the results are important Have a big picture so that the recipient recollects those as part of coaching exercise in the future There is nothing called constructive criticism.It is just criticism!

Peer review within the team can indeed foster a collaborative environment. When you decide to do this, you must make sure that everyone in the team is comfortable before setting up this system, you can discuss how this would be conducted either over a conference call or just by having them leave comments. I personally prefer as a call rather than giving them the ability to just leave comments when they review each others codes as you can at least be a mediator in case things get out of hand. Consider allowing anonymous feedback for those who might feel uncomfortable giving direct feedback. This can help ensure honesty while maintaining respect. This is also a way to ensure doing this in a respectful and constructive manner.
