I would recommend that the information security strategy to be aligned towards your organization’s business strategy. The easiest way of doing so is to ensure all your key stakeholders in the organization are contributing to the development of the security strategy. This will also establish understanding how those security initiatives generate business value. If the business and security strategy are aligned it will reduce administrative overhead and complexity in the operationalization of the information security program, i.e. execution of the actual initiatives/projects. And be pragmatic, don’t over complicate stuff. It is the actual execution of the strategy and initiatives that will contribute to an improved security posture.
