As a designer, realising that you are contributing professionally to a domain of knowledge, have an interest in integrated approaches and time for people (as well as nature) - a well researched approach to all projects will increase the value of your involvement. Research design in its many forms holds the answer if you have educated youself as an architect or landscape architect. You are creating material for dialogue, inspiration for investment of time, more than money. The most helpful models of research design place the participation of all stakeholders (seen not just as users), centrally to the process.

To keep everyone on the same page in a complex landscape project, start by clearly defining each person’s role so there’s no confusion about who’s doing what. Regular meetings help everyone stay updated and address any issues before they become bigger problems. It’s also helpful to have a communication plan in place so everyone knows how and when to reach out. Finally, keeping all important documents in one shared location or server to ensure that everyone has an access to the information they need. This way, the project runs smoothly, and everyone is staying up to date.

We can effectively monitor by diversifying the role of individuals employed on project site and taking follow up and once we have taken follow up and made concise of day to day work we can communicate with the project managers and ask about their views and ask for any loophole that can be fulfilled and once we are satisfied with their daily activities we can conclude with the other stake holders on financial and other points and their views and again get back to project managers and ask them to implement the feedback received from other stakeholders and what can work and what cannot.

When working with other disciplines and stakeholders in projects, having a defined plan or schedule of communication is crucial to making sure that everyone stays on the same page. Nothing is more frustrating than when project changes are communicated to other disciplines which results in hours/days/weeks of work being all for naught. I have found that the basis for efficient communication between stakeholders and disciplines is to maintain a good relationship with each of them. People are more likely to communicate with those they feel like they are on a team with, so it’s best to treat each other like teammates rather than just two disciplines working on a common project. This likes regular meetings can help facilitate teamwork.

Make sure you have a detailed project plan with defined roles and responsibilties. But as always be prepared to deal with last-minute changes! Keep the project plan updated so everyone knows where they are in relation the projects progress. Get involved with the people making the project happen; from design, planning and on-site during construction. Having face to face interaction and showing your interested in their work and input greatly increases good communication between your teams, contractors and stakeholders.

As designers, we often times find ourselves in the middle of conflict between owners, contractors, stakeholders, etc. Our world is a very small world and we often times work with similar people on projects. When conflict arises, it can be very easy to take sides based off who you have the closest relationship with. We as designers have to remember to stay professional at all times and to navigate conflict through an unbiased standing so that all parties involved walk out of the conflict in the best way possible. If remaining unbiased is not an option, you should always get a third party to mediate so that we can represent our industry in the highest standards of professionalism as possible.

One of the most crucial exercises for a multi-disciplinary projects is stake holder coordination amongst internal and external agencies. For successful timely delivery our primary responsibility is design guardianship at all stages of the project. At certain levels the project vision is susceptible to multiple changes with respect to site conditions, budgetary constraints, project timeline. Thus, during course correction - project vision, material quality and specifications should be safeguarded at all times during project construction.
