Removing Barriers to Participation – consider accessibility in all forms—physical, financial, linguistic, and cultural. This could mean offering sliding-scale pricing, providing interpretation services, or choosing a venue that’s easily accessible by public transport. Inclusivity isn’t just about inviting people—it’s about making sure they feel genuinely welcomed, represented, and valued.

Outline what the event is about, who the target audience is, and what defines the success of the event. Brainstorm who would benefit from participating and invite them directly. Think of ways to engage and involve people during the event through activities that are not intrusive, obstructive, or overly synthetic. Make sure to talk to some of the participants before the event to understand their perspectives, interests, and needs, using design thinking interview methodology and adjust accordingly your approach.
