To maintain a competitive edge in sustainable aerospace, I engage deeply with ongoing research, continuously learning from cutting-edge studies and patents on green aviation technologies. I regularly network with industry professionals by attending conferences and seminars, where I exchange ideas and collaborate on innovative projects. Lifelong learning is key—I've completed advanced courses on sustainable propulsion and materials, including TU Delft’s course on climate-neutral aviation. Finally, hands-on projects like optimizing propulsion systems for energy efficiency help me apply and refine sustainable solutions in real-world contexts.

Here's a few points to consider The aerospace industry is very conservative, and change happens slowly especially when the risk is evident. What we can do is look at the current operations in design, assembly and MRO and see where there are opportunities to either reduce waste, recycle materials or use more environmentally friendly materials and/or processes. Recently I have witnessed this in some customers who have been collecting material milled from billets and then compressed and placed in tubs to be sold to recyclers. Another small example is regrinding drill bits to decrease the cost per hole when using such tooling. Another example is to use electrodes for fastener removal rather than carbide cutting tools with an Edrill.

What’s more, it’s not just about staying updated—it’s about staying inspired.

Talk to people who are in the domain. Get acting. Involve yourself in projects or courses that are related to sustainable aviation. Because to say "I did this" is always better than saying "I read/know this". And if you're a professional in the aviation/space industry, think of ways in which you could make your product more sustainable, and pitch the idea. Even if it doesn't work out, you now have a network and the knowledge and satisfaction from trying.
