Try to learn what ever you can Prepare yourself with good technologies in parallel Once you get hold of any of the good technology, then clearly call out your expectation to change the project. Some times its not that easy to move to project which you want and suits your tech skills Then keep doing follow up BUT only for limited time At some moment take the final decision and go ahead.

Read IT history both of specific very successful players (Intel, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Apple, Cisco, Hewlett Packard, Dell, etc.) and broader lessons from Geoffrey Moore, Everett Rogers, Regis McKenna, Robert delaMarter, Kenichi Ohmae, Jeffrey Funk, Clayton Christenson, and Robert Sutton/Jeffrey Pfeffer. That's the fastest, cheapest, and deepest way to get a fair understanding of what's worked and how (very different from most of what you'll hear, there's a huge amount of very shallow and wrong guesswork ,masquerading as wisdom in IT strategy. That most new IT deployments are miserable for everyone and fail on most measures is the biggest secret and that programmers rarely understand users' needs is the crushing constraint.

I have found self assessments to be helpful. 1. IT Infrastructure: Do I understand networks, cloud, and hardware? Can I link infrastructure choices to business scalability? 2. SDLC Knowledge: Am I familiar with SDLC phases and their impact on strategic planning? 3. Data Management: Do I know the basics of data storage, security, and governance? Can I use data to drive strategy? 4. Strategy Link: Can I connect foundational IT concepts to strategic goals? 5. Communication: Can I explain IT concepts in clear, simple terms to non-technical stakeholders? 6. Continuous Learning: Am I staying updated on IT trends and expanding my knowledge? Reflecting on these questions will help identify areas to strengthen for strategic impact.
