As a development professional, I always try to recognize and address biases to my capabilities by educating myself. One should be open-minded while receiving feedback and seek diverse perspectives. I think simply learning about different individuals from diverse backgrounds will help to reduce these biases or stereotypes. If we follow this, you may contribute to create a more inclusive environment for your social work practice.

I have been working with various communities and what I learned is that we need different strategies while we work towards the process of empowering community. Firstly, we should start collaborating with the beneficiaries and let them identify their own needs and assets. Secondly, generating demands from the community itself for their needs e.g services like healthcare, education, livelihood etc. Simultaneously, keep engaging the community in different capacity-building sessions. In terms of sustainability, it can be achieved once they become self-reliance and solutions become community-driven.

There are different methods of advocacy in different settings. But some principles remain the same. For instance, social workers must do preliminary research to identify the challenge and generate some evidence either through primary or secondary research. Community participation is also must and to initiate the process, start with stakeholder engagement and identify relevant stakeholders (incl. community) who can contribute throughout the process. Awareness, media campaigns, meetings, and workshops are some tools you can use during the process to generate support. Don't forget to do another major step that will be doing policy advocacy with policymakers.

To help people who need extra support, it's important to work together as a team. Find people who care about fairness and can help you convince others. Working together with people from different backgrounds makes our work stronger. By joining forces, we can fix problems and make sure everyone has the same chances.
