My 2 cents: 1. Our EQ (emotional quotient) (you can also call it EI) is the most important factor leading to our success, much more than our IQ, SQ and DQ. It makes us wiser, more empathetic, and helps us to connect with people more closely and thus helps us to make a huge difference wherever we are. 2. Google in a survey certified a few years back that empathy is the No.1 skill all educators need in a post covid world. It's a MUST. 3. It makes our decision making sharper and quicker. One should never waste time in taking decisions. Be a risk taker. It's okay to fail at times and learn from them. 4. Being empathetic helps one to stay motivated. Self empathy should be practiced by all. 5. It makes one a critical thinker.

I remember doing a research on the influence of emotional intelligence in the academic setting, and it just consolidated what has always been which I would explain in the following lines. Emotional Intelligence is the field every professional needs to be an expert in, it makes or mar our development within and without. Winning at emotional intelligence drives us to depth of growth and fulfillment we didn't know we possessed.

Understanding your modus operandi will help with decision making. Know thyself and listen to other ideas. We don’t have all the answers but together we can formulate the best ideas.

Sharpening one's own EI helps you better understand and navigate the emotions and needs of others. Thus, fostering collaboration and ensuring that conflicts are solved constructively, avoiding unwanted escalation. This ability to mediate, motivate and connect with people not only builds a level of trust, but also creates a work culture where everyone feels valued, heard and empowered to contribute to our shared goals. So far, this has helped me engage meaningfully with diverse personalities of staff, students and parents alike.

Decision making could be rational or intuitive. Rational decision may be based on facts and figures while intuitive ones are based on gut feeling plus has more emotional connect to it. When we factor in components of EI in our decision making it becomes more inclusive and impactful. EI involves awareness of emotions of others as well apart from our own so the decisions are much more endearing. The important aspect in any decision is the achievement of goals and targets. If that end includes the willing assent of other stakeholders then it becomes more long lasting as well. This aspect of homogeneity becomes driving force when we incorporate EI in our decision making. We also know that bigger and greater leaders always possess more of EI.
