The biggest mistake I ever made when presenting virtually was no back up plan. From smoke detectors going off to full in power outages - having a back up plan ahead of time with your client and your audience can turn a cringe worthy moment into an instant human connection. Here’s why: We’ve all experienced less than ideal situations when leading or attending a virtual event. Knowing that this COULD happen and making a plan B ahead of time increases your credibility (I know what can happen and I’m prepared) and provides an instant connection with your audience. The most important thing I want to share is DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF to speakers who have a professional studio and a team setting up microphones, cameras, lights, and keeping up with the progress of the event. If you are the only one taking care of it (for now ??), put your best foot forward and make tweaks and improvements as you go. As long as you have a setting that makes you feel comfortable in how you show up, information that will add value, and the energy of an expert excited to share... you will be golden! Make that makeshift home office your stage!

Numbers do not lie! Feedback from every event is critical to your success. Always be humble to delve into your inner journey; take inventory of what was excellent, tweaks that are needed, take note of what was disliked, be creative and know when to fall back or take a quantum leap!

Improve, absolutely! However, remember that we are all human. We all hear crickets sometimes, we all miss the mark sometimes! We get stuck. Remember the priceless value of the mess-ups, the imperfections. I know that I've delivered some of the best received talks right after I earnestly screw-up! Try not to get caught-up in the 'always getting better' scheme, sometimes you're overlooking some gems right there waiting to be shared that can inspire someone to change their own life. Look within. Then set goals on how to meet their interests, the goals might be set in smaller chunks to avoid procrastination. Also, have confidence in your ability. As a motivational speaker, you must be known as a carrier of confidence in the way you put your content out there. Always Practice and prepare, don't think you have known it all. Each time you have an event, practice like that's your last event, and put in effort. And lastly, engage with your audience. It is very important to receive feedback from your audience. This will enable you to know where to put more effort to be a better speaker. Keep getting better.

One of the biggest surprises of the last ten years is that VIRTUAL events didn't carry on after lockdown ended. I can understand people were keen to leave the screen and meet in person again. But in the music teambuilding events I ran myself I saw new types connections being made, involving family members and sometimes even pets (!) that you just don't get at onsite conferences. I think perhaps we threw the baby out with the bathwater. Directly answering the question, given that I got thousands of people out of their seats and playing pots and pans during team drumming sessions, as a speaker myself, or if followed by the CEO with some key messages, we created LIVE, upbeat enthusiastic audiences worldwide. They were keen to learn.
