Success loves Preparation! Doesn't matter how experienced one is practicing before the actual event reveals flaws & increases the overall efficiency of the event. Checking technical requirements cannot be understated as well. No matter how many times you have done it, technical glitches can disrupt the flow of an event unlike anything else.

Always test your equipments especially your mics, earphones, lightings and cameras. You could have the best talk and speech in the world but if your equipments are not working, it will be very hard to convey your message effectively . One tip is I usually do a recording of myself through zoom to see if my equipments are working and reviewing the recorded video before I go live so I can make adjustments based on what I see, hear and feel.

This is a little out there- take an improv class! Learning how to improvise can do wonders for your public speaking abilities. You'll feel more natural on camera and be more confident in your ability to answer questions in the moment.

Although trade craft needs to be modified to fit the format, the key elements of effective presenting remain the same. It's not about you; it's about them. Understand your audience, their challenges, opportunities, and culture. Engage with them before, during, and after your presentation. You want to provide a call to action. What should they "do" after they hear you speak?

Be INTENTIONAL. Too often speakers tend to fade into the "zoom zone". You must keep the same energy and enthusiasm that you bring to in-person events to the virtual space. People tune out because they are use to folks presenting the same way in the virtual space. Bring relevancy around what your host is looking for and then bring energy, and do your best to read the room, and be innovative.

Practice makes prepared! I also have done research and found that the more prepared you are and the most you rehearse, the less likely it will be that you are overtaken by 'butterflies' during your presentation or keynote. I always memorize my opening and conclusion, too.

If you can't engage an audience without distractions, personally I'd question how good a speaker you really are? It's fine to start using enhancements once your a master of natural engagement, but if you are using them to cover the racks in your natural ability.. There is a proble that needs fixing. I'd step back and invest in some broadcast training for an expert in delivering to camera, using auto cue etc. Find out what makes the great just that, great. Then develop your own style from there.

The following points are crucial: - Your virtual presentation should be much shorter than a live speech: Between 20 and 30 minutes - Use different media as often as you can (videos, sound bites, Gifs, etc.) - Be as interactive as possible - Think of your virtual presentation more as a netflix series than a traditional speech But there is one thing that is the most important thing online AND offline: The audience always comes first, so try to bring value!
