Sometimes, all you need to regulate your emotions in such situation is “active listening” whereas typically we focus more on listening to respond! Being a leader, it is quintessential to stay away from that “instant gratification” as it generally fuels the fire and look at situation from the perspective of all the parties involved! Acknowledge and validate their point, all we want is for someone to hear us out… so why not be the one to offer it first!!!

Drop into curiosity to open the door to a wider perspective. Employ “VuJa de” - see the same thing with fresh eyes. However, I’m a firm believer that amazing outcomes can happen with productive dissent. Make it a normal and expected part of the discussion, so respectful jousting brings out better conclusions.

If nobody's listening anymore, it's time for a break. Depending on your role in the meeting, and your relationships with the various attendees, it may or may not be a good idea to check in individually. If you do, make sure you do it in a way that does not convey favouritism / bias. If someone comes to you privately, exercise discretion for the same reason. The most important thing to take care of is how the meeting restarts. Assuming you have the "right" to reconvene, here's 3 things to do: 1) Name the conflict without making it about anyone 2) Identify, if possible, the ONE thing that everyone wants 3) Propose ground rules which include seeking permission to interrupt when things get too heated

"What's your biggest concern?" Then take it from there, empathising with the counterpart. Highlight how you're going to meet the requests. Also, use the "AND" technique: replace "but" with "and". E.g.: "I see you are concerned that we're out of budget, AND that's why we need to keep the project going to offset the high costs and make this company profitable again." It works just fine.
