Whenever you start something like to escalate your skills, the first step is to evaluate yourself. So, that you have an idea of where you need to improve yourself or where you are good enough. Don't forget the part that you can't be perfect in any skill but you can be best in any skill. Once you finalize what you have to work on, start working on it by being honest and realistic. Don't think like you can improve yourself in a week or month because learning is a lifelong process so yes you can enhance your skill at any moment of your life.

People who volunteer are there because they care deeply about the issue or cause and are asking, 'How can I help'? I have discovered that one of the best ways to mentor a volunteer is to match their skill sets with tasks that need to be done. If they are volunteering their time they want to use that time wisely to contribute effectively and efficiently to the reason they are there. It's a win-win for the volunteer and the issue that needs support.

I use Strength Finder to assess my own strengths and also the person I am mentoring. This allows me to see where wee can interest and help each other in communication.

While choosing a mentee, consider their needs and your skills. Don't be afraid to refer them to someone else who has that skill set already. As you send mentees to other professionals you respect, they'll think of you when someone asks for mentoring in an area beyond their own expertise.

As a volunteer manager, I've observed how self-doubt and comparison can hinder one's recognition of their ability to make meaningful contributions. Sometimes, we impose our own limitations based on perceived barriers, such as job descriptions, age, or educational background. However, there are no strict criteria for becoming a mentor. It's essential to recognize that anyone can offer guidance and support based on their knowledge and passion. Effective mentorship goes beyond mere expertise; it requires a willingness to share, learn, and grow together. The best mentors I've encountered exhibit a growth mindset and a genuine desire to see their mentees thrive.

One thing i have found helpful is Peer Mentoring. Facilitate peer mentoring opportunities where mentees can learn from and support each other in a collaborative and mutually beneficial way. Encourage mentees to share their experiences, challenges, and best practices with their peers. This not only showcases best mentoring practice but enables mentees the platform to develop mentoring, team networking skills among other transferrable skills.
