When conducting leadership development, I insist that everyone has AT LEAST 3 mentors. Specifically, 1 who has achieved what you seek, 1 who understands your current life situation (married, kids, finances, etc.), & someone (and yes this is a separate person) who will kick your butt when you need it. We ALL need it sometimes. Along the way, other specific mentors can be helpful. Get your life in order, do an honest self assessment (with mentor guidance), & determine the optimal way to achieve what you seek. Studying for an MBA in a full-time executive job and a family with pre-teens was particularly challenging. During these three years, I had to cut almost all my hobbies and social activities. However, I noticed that selected activities helped me to resource myself and take a few hours (or even sometimes a few days) break from my studies, allowing me to come back stronger. Communicating to my family and friends circles that I was studying and could not commit to activities gave me the freedom to decide what was helpful without feeling guilty about not participating in most of the activities.
