To help your team get better at solving problems, do activities like workshops and team exercises. Encourage them to be creative and work together. Give them feedback and be a good example. The first step is to evaluate the team's current level by accessing them, creating roll-ply scenarios, and observing their approach and the steps they use to solve problems, Once each team member's strength and opportunity are identified, a learning plan will be generated to enhance their abilities and skills

This is a very important step into building people and coaching them from where they are to where they want to go. Random coaching can make them feel overwhelmed around the practise and there’s this knowing where they are in the now that matters So yes, Assessments through various tools available like Ennaegram, psychometric assessment like-and enabling them to answer for self reflection and even coaching on competency wheels are good place to start with. Once self aware they only want more and embark on a journey into expansion and better critical thinking abilities.

I believe using tried and tested methods to solve problems. They are easy and help variety of problems. Once the team defines the problem then we can teach them step by step method of addressing the problem. The simplest of the problem solving framework is the PDCA cycle, which starts by planning then doing and checking and then acting. Since these are proven methods, chances of failure are minimum

I so agree with teaching Proven frameworks in problem solving. I have seen some very effective and progressive solutions emerging from the frameworks as they incorporate everyone's opinions and the biases are minimized and positively affects the logical process approach ,build consensus and ownership amongst the team members. The #steps framework where we consider root cause analysis, plan to solve the problem, Implement the resolution and Evaluate it critically, is greatto focus on problems in the order of priority!

Having periodic governance or cadence is part and parcel of project journey. Monitoring progress helps in taking course correction actions and helps us to remain on track to meet the objectives. Often, measurement has helped in understanding the problem in a better way and also determine the gap w. r. t targets. This in turn determines the magnitude of efforts to be taken for bridging the gap.

I am a big proponent of the statement- ' We cannot solve the problems from the same level of resources/ awareness or being which created them in the first place. Ideally by engaging in coaching g or in mentoring , one is able to elevate their presence, self awareness, Perceptions, resourcefulness and skillset and much more. Ideally if done right both coaching and mentoring teams can be a rewarding journey as it guides the members towards a common purposeful goal with the stickiness of self growth and leadership as they go! For once, let me get a little funny with my answer. I often receive feedback about my problem-solving skills, and when I tried to figure out why...well, let's just say I'm 99% sure it stems from my childhood obsession with MacGyver (the original 80s TV series, of course). That show taught me you can literally do anything with what you have around, a lesson I carry into my daily life – and with some success, I might add. It also instilled a mindset of always having a plan B, C, and D up my sleeve.

Help them to identify how to approach a problem, some concepts and key frameworks that they can use to solve generic problems easily.

Use of the right framework for problem solving is important to avoid unnecessary efforts. There are many framework available but the selection of the right one is crucial. It depends upon the objective such as reducing variation, improving turnaround time, reducing cost, improving productivity etc. Frameworks such as DMAIC, DFSS are used in industry. Tools such as FMEA, VSM, kanban, pokayoke are used for solving problems. One should define the problem correctly to use the right tool or framework for solving the problem.

For me problem solving is more an art than science. It calls for attitude oriented bend of mind. It can start with right categorisation which will bring in focus to lead to conclusions. This will also help us declutter complex problems. Once it is categorised solutions can come based on past similar experiences from this Industry or similar industry.
