Successful stakeholders management in construction projects need a thorough stakeholders identification/ mapping prior to start of work. This also means that there is a workable stakeholders engagement plan in place. Some stakeholders sometimes require full integration into the construction team (e.g. government regulators), while others may only need to be regularly engaged via townhalls or other meeting modes (e.g. host communities). The stakeholders management plan would have spelt out what level of engagement is required for each category of stakeholder and how often this should happen. One must however note that stakeholders with high interest & influence levels need to be very closely engaged and/or monitored for their satisfaction.

To show to the shareholders and board, the importance of projects meeting the strategic objectives of growth, sustainability, profitability indicators, capital discipline and portfolio ranking, etc. To show how much the company contributes to the country's GDP and payment of taxes. To the communities near the areas of influence where the projects and/or industries are located, local labor be hired for skilled / unskilled activities (if they meets the company's selection criteria). The company cannot replace the state (government), however, it can participate in partnership with the state to carry out social works such as construction of roads, schools, etc. The projects must comply with all the requirements of the regulatory entities.

In my experience, identifying stakeholders, researching them and categorising them in a power/interest grid is one of the most efficient ways to prioritize and develop effective communication strategies for each group

The composition of a team of this type should include people from a broad range of responsibilities to include different strong points of talent and experience. One might think that the composition should be heavily engineering but it needs to include field level, engineering, management and even cost analysis to get a range of viewpoints. This will not only get you buy in from the various participants but a different perspective on things

Managing stakeholders in any project requires effective communication, goals alignment and proactive engagement; this also applies to oil and gas projects. In order to achieve this, one must ensure proper stakeholder analysis is carried out before engagement. Stakeholders need to be actively carried along by providing regular updates, providing clear communication channels and also ensure expectations are properly managed. Note, in most cases, conflicts may arise between stakeholders, you must be prepared to positively resolve conflicts effectively and encourage collaboration among stakeholders.

Setting up a realistic goal is needed, with a timeline of course. There are certain amount of uncertainty in this trade and often depends of government policies, directives and processes. Thus, the goals should be realistic and timeline should be continuously updated

Just to add, I’d even recommend to find excuses to meet the stakeholders if needed. Just to be in their top of mind. And, often non-agenda engagements with stakeholders works magic.

Communication , listening , recording or taking minutes. Stake & share holders need the truth on a regular bases if you want continued revenue. Too much information is better than not enough. Meet or conference bi weekly .

If a stakeholder is directly involved in managing the project or operation, one of the main conflicts that may arise is regarding the level of authority on an opinion, leading to ego clashes that could potentially contribute to the downfall of the project. The solution lies in compromising and finding common ground on the matter.

Our goal is to cummunicate effectively and make sure that all stakeholders are receiving the ncessary information for their decision making process. Make sure to highlight the deviations involved in the project. If there are questions or reservations from stakeholders, open to comments and be agile in your approach.
