I once was reviewing with a senior stakeholder and ended up saying something wrong. I usually smile or laugh at my own mistakes so I did the same. I did get feedback later that some situations should be handled more seriously. Nonetheless, I think making yourself the subject of humor takes away from others getting offended by it. Use humor usually at start before jumping into serious discussions.

At the end of the day, we are all human. We spend a lot of time at work and Senior Stakeholders have challenging days like the rest of us. If there is an opportunity to lighten the mood in a particularly heavy meeting then why not take it? As long as it will not offend or divert the course of the meeting then a brief interlude or well placed jibe can be just what is needed to build rapport and make a difficult session run a little more smoothly.
