In my experience short trips to visit my remote teams have been great to build team chemistry and to gain an understanding of the remote team's culture. During my visits I put an emphasis on getting to know all the employees individually. I also make a point to set up off site celebrations with the entire team. I remember taking my team in Noida, India for a bowling outing. Unlike in the US where everyone stays behind the bowler and is quiet, they would line the approach to the lane and shout encouragement. It was quite a site and made for great stories. I also try to immerse myself in the local sports that the team in interested in. In India, I follow cricket and stayed up to date on the latest matches. In Argentina, I kept up with soccer.
