I always assess the workload and the priority of each item I have planned out for my day (based on its urgency and importance) so that I can shift and move what i need to, as required. Different jobs have tasks that are considered the top priority and 'above all' in your list of things to do. My job is no different. As a result of clear and detailed planning, it makes it easier to adjust my schedule to fit in time to deal with urgent and ad-hoc issues. I never fill up my whole day with meetings etc as this is something that will always happen, so it is always best to have that space in your day to handle these things as they come up.
