Before sending colleagues to a client, what really helps is to practice with an internal team first. Especially with giving training in data viz or power bi, we encourage to first train a group of internal employees, accompanied with a senior profile to give feedback on the training. After that, sit together with people and ask for feedback to see which topics need more explanation or something. And then you are prepped to give training at a client.

A third tip to help your team manage stress is to recognize and reward your team for their hard work and accomplishments. Recognition and reward can motivate your team, boost their morale, and make them feel valued and appreciated. We often tell people what they do wrong, and almost never what they do right. This really needs to change. So really make sure to give people good feedback as well. Tell them good things about how they work, their design, how they handled the data cleaning process, … It’s often a positive mindset that keeps good people at your company, aligning both their and your values. These things can be said at the coffee machine, or via a feedbackloop or anything, just make sure you really mean what you say and it comes from the heart.

I have been in the labor market for over 15 years, I had so many managers I can not count on my two hands. All of them left either good or bad mark on me. At the end I don't remember for the details but how they made me feel. In my opinion the best I can do for the team is creating a safe environment where everyone is heard and treated with respect and kindness. Very important to celebrate small successes and appreciate positivity. Elevating the individuals skillsets and providing value in their career development.

Foster a culture where making a mistake isn’t taboo - too often errors are swept under the carpet for fear of being pilloried. If a team member admits an error, helps fix the underlying causes, the team can learn from the mistake and, hopefully, not repeat it. To err is human after all!
