In mechanical design and devlopment, most of the time 3D scanning is done in order to devlop a parametric 3D CAD model by reverse engineering methods such as remastering on scanned CAD Data. Having a high end scanner allows you to obtain closer CAD results to the actuals. This completely depends on the industry and tolerance requirements. Ultimately it comes down to the project profile and scope based on which the right scanner is employed.

This is a good point, my biggest goal is to create accurate materials specifically used for lingerie, so high quality scans of lace and mesh material are what I require.

I've never had the opportunity to use a Vizoo scanner, but hear this is the gold standard for material scans. I've also had good results from high resolution image scanners min 600 DPI. I've also heard good things about the Vizoo software as well as Seddi Textura.

As it's a point of upgrading we may be aware of our goals and hence we need a upgrade. We can go for right technology which meets our requirement.

This can be understood by looking at an example of Aircraft. Aircraft requires high level maintenance and manufacturing accuracy to ensure they are air worthy. An aircraft geometry is very complex therefore most suitable methods for aircraft scanning are the ones that are, highly accurate and portable. Photogrammetry and laser scanners provide best accuracy without physical contact on the surface since we don’t want to damage the surface during scanning. Laser scanning is preferred more on aircraft as it provide better accuracy and is a time saving process as it doesn’t involve taking a lot of images just like photogrammetry, the user can scan the whole 3D object by moving the scanner around the object irrespective of movement restriction.

Since I'm a broke college student, cost is my first criteria. I like to use my excel sheet and put a list of different brands into a column, their specs in the second column, and their price in the third column. Then I look at a mix of the 5 star, 3 star, and 1 star reviews and figure out which ones have the more serious issues that I can't ignore or work around. This might seem as though it does not play a very important role in scanner selection. But it really does. Looking at the reviews from other users of the product can give you insight on I you're about to make a good decision or not. It's also important because reviews vary very vastly, as what someone would get from the product wouldn't be what so eone else wants from the same product. So it's really important to check the reviews, and most importantly, look at the reviews from users that have carried out tasks similar to yours.

Online reviews have significant impact when it comes to device selection. It narrows down your selection and reveals the true expectations from device. Sometimes reviews reporting performance lags or drawbacks helps you to select another device.

Always important doing your own research about others opnions besides the bare comparation about specs and price. That way you will feel more sure.

Unpopular opinion but if I find myself doubting the reviews on certain products. Or if it seems too good to be true, I'll search about the product on reddit because usually people on reddit are more honest and have less of a reason to make fake reviews.

Reviews can give us customer feedback and perspective..it can tell alot about performance, quality, potential issues and limitations..

It is critical not only to test the scanner for desired accuracy, but compatibility with further analysis. Depending on what the scan will be used different software will be employed. It can be often wise to choose the scanner brand that allows for seamless integration with the existing workflow rather than a cheaper or a meaninglessly more accurate options that will significantly increase the postprocessing work by the operators and in turn cost more in the long run.

Testing will give us how scanner works for us in day to day activity...it tells us about performance, quality and feel...it also tells its accuracy, user friendly behaviour etc

In my experience, when it is related your CAD Project you should see the accuracy required,resolution needed for detailed information, scan speed to minimise scanning time, range of scan,intuitive interface for ease of use, portable, compatibility with format of file you use for cad, support and training from the scanner company.

Se eu tivesse que trocar, seguiria da seguinte forma: 1- escolheria um que tivesse uma precis?o que atenda meus projetos. 2- também iria verificar se a área de escaneamento atenderia o tamanho das minhas pe?as. 3- iria verificar o custo x benefício em rela??o às minhas necessidades , se de fato iria valer a pena.
