There are times when professionally its a very lucrative option but personally it might not be too practical or vica versa. In your process of identifying & eventually engaging a mentor for your project, of course share your brief upfront so you have made your plans clear, but when an interaction does occur, do not shy away from asking hard hitting questions in the fear of being rejected. If anything, well meaning mentors would appreciate that approach and would be equally excited about the plan as you are, and that perhaps instantly paves the way for both a rapport & trust early in the process. Remember, eventually it is your project/plan, not the mentors! You have to feel confident & secure about the final decision, so ask as many questions you want. Success or failure cannot be predicted, but your probing a potential mentor upfront could be in your favour.

A mentor - mentee isnt necessarily based on a difference of seniority or knowledge, or skills ~ the relationship can be more similar to having a sparring partner helping the mentee to see clearer paths. The key is to maintain and plan regular contacts. And similarly to a coach effect, commitment to results or deadlines to the mentor is a great way to push yourself.
