My two main planning tools are Jira and Confluence. Jira for the actual project management and tracking. Confluence for communicating the strategy, goals, milestones, etc. I tend to present the confluence details to leadership and work in Jira with my development partners.

My top 3 tools that have been an asset in collaboration are: 1. JIRA: One of the most popular & widely used tools: it helps to track and manage the requirements and release of the product/offer/feature. Its integration with Confluence is a bonus, which allows to document the intricacies of ones work. 2. Wrike: I have recently been exploring Wrike. While it is also collaborative management tool, the key difference between JIRA and Wrike is the tools use case (technical/software. dev cycles vs marketing/other domains), interactive experience and breadth of customization. 3. White boards and Huddle, via Teams/Zoom and Slack respectively are great way to brainstorm ideas, share knowledge base, and collaborate with the team.

My two favorites are Linear and Slack. We use Linear to keep a neat overview of all workstreams that are going on. It helps to work very task-focused and keep all the important information around an initiative in one place. Slack is used all the time for all communication (written, as well as verbal via Huddles. For us as a remote team, it significantly improved alignment across the team as it reduces the friction to communicate by 10x (comparing to email and scheduled calls).

However, for more complex and larger product teams, I believe Rally, a tool from Broadcom, is a superior choice compared to Trello. Rally excels in portfolio management, dashboarding, and visualizing requirements across various levels, making it well-suited for handling more extensive and intricate projects.

Your best collaboration tool is a good note-taking system. People mistake a messaging tool (like Slack) for collaboration a lot. What drives productive collaboration is the PM knowing who to talk to about what topic and what output to drive out of that conversation. That comes from good notes, a good memory, and a drive to get value into the customer's hands. I keep a stack of legal pads and spiral bound notebooks by my desk, and they're very messy, but they are also what actually drives collaboration for me. Because those are the thinking surfaces where I figure out the correct next stakeholder to talk to, the correct question to ask the customer, and the correct deciding factor to determine scope. Collaboration is brain-first!
