The only way I think you can self-assess is by doing a time audit. In other words, you have to know exactly where all your time is going. I believe we as professionals cannot self-assess perfectly without using something unbiased (like time). Otherwise, professionals are too hard or too easy on themselves. So, I've found that the best way to self-assess is to keep a daily journal (I haven't missed a day in more than six years). In my journal, I have goals and track where my time goes with time stamps. Each week, I review all the stamps and reflect on what I am spending time on. The less time I've spent doing things that directly impact my goals, the lower my self-assessment will be. Honest. Fair. Unbiased. Keep a journal.
