Many engineers I've worked with initially view AI as a complex, almost mystical technology. But in reality, it's a powerful tool that's revolutionizing how we approach design, maintenance, and efficiency in mechanical engineering. For those still hesitant about embracing AI, my advice is simple: start small. Begin with a single process you'd like to optimize, whether it's predictive maintenance for a specific piece of equipment or automating part of your design workflow. As you see the benefits firsthand, it becomes easier to envision larger-scale applications.

By showing how AI can streamline processes, improve decision-making, and enhance overall efficiency, you can build trust and reduce resistance. What are their doubts? That's the first thing. There's no point in bull-dozing ahead to integrate the next 'new toy' (in this case AI) without first understanding your company's position. Senior leaders can sometimes get focused on staying on top of new tech. However, if you are not factoring in your company's data position, internal sentiments on company direction and internal subject matter expert views on the new tech then integrating AI is going to be a long, resource-intensive (perhaps resource-wasted) endeavour that may not deliver the outcome desired. Only once you're clear on these aspects can you then look to see how AI can benefit your organisation. AI's not going anywhere, in fact it'll keep getting better, so there's no rush! :)

One of the biggest doubt now a days employee has, that he will loose his job. First key factor is to make them realize, how AI will make their life easier. Especially for tedious but repetitive/ laborious works, it's always better to have automation through AI. In that case, person is relaxed and just have to keep watch for any abnormalities occurring during the process. For example, designing a component again and again with few variations, AI can support by giving the initial design in no time based on history of designs. Then moving onwards, designer can make changes if required as per customer requirement. Then productivity of person increases as he can think of other new ideas to enhance the system instead time used on same.

I will need to emphasize it's impact on productivity by automating repetitive tasks and allowing them to focus on more strategic and creative work. I will need to highlight the importance of AI as a tool to support their efforts and not to replace them making it clear that its adoption is key to staying competitive and innovative in the industry. I will reassure them that AI can simplify complex problems, improve decision-making and ultimately lead to more successful outcomes for the entire team.

Today's fast paced world, data is the new digital gold. No matter how intelligent a person is, cannot do the same task with same efficency all the time. Here AI plays decisive role of providing the data based on historical data and parameters, and the person just need to take decision after going through the data. For AI, there is no personal gains, rest or emotions involved. So the results coming purely based on facts and figures. Also daily emails or status reports can be easily automated through AI. In turn it gives more freedom to people to work on new ideas and solutions. Moreover, other good thing is peace of mind, which usually person doesn't have while doing laborious work.

En efecto, es cierto. Lo mismo sucedía con las computadoras bastante primitivas, pero podían implementarse en varios tipos de máquinas y reducir el tiempo humano, el estrés, la ansiedad, etc. Considero que este punto es muy importante porque la gente tendrá miedo de los despidos masivos. Y, lamentablemente, la IA nos proporcionará esa solución. La única solución que veo es trasladar a la gente a un departamento donde la IA no llegue tan rápido.

Whether one like it or not, AI is the key part of any future technology involving hardware, software etc. So it's better to enhance one's skill or team skills to be aligned with future requirements. In mechanical also, systems are controlled via electronics and few with hydraulics or manual controls. So being a mechanical engineer also, need to be aligned with trends of AI and learn how it can help the mechanical systems more efficiently. For example giving alerts and monthly reports and defining preventive or corrective maintenance of the systems.
