You're leading a team of designers in a Building Design firm. How can you ensure their creativity thrives?

One thing I’ve always found that grows confidence, competence and teamwork and open dialogue is actually accountability. All the way from the top. I once heard mistakes are only mistakes if they happen twice, otherwise they are lessons. Most ideas never see the light of day for fear of failure, but when you build a culture of failure being a learning and development process, not to be feared, teams become far more willing to innovate, share ideas and try new things. This opens the door to extremely creative ideas and openness to every member of the team contributing and adding value to the project and themselves.

I think prioritize a culture of open dialogue and collaboration. Regular feedback sessions allow us to share insights and explore ideas, fostering an environment where innovation can flourish. I encourage team members to take ownership of their tasks while providing the support they need to push their boundaries. By integrating design critiques and brainstorming workshops, we create a dynamic atmosphere that stimulates creative thinking. Additionally, celebrating diverse perspectives within the team enhances our design solutions, ensuring that we not only meet project goals but also elevate the overall creative output of our firm.

To bring in the hidden creativity in the designers will be conducting brainstorming sessions . Will be giivng Mock small spaces to be designed with full freedom to create out of the box designs.

In my role as Director of Studio at SpaceUp, I prioritize creating an open space where dialogue flows freely. Providing the team an opportunity to think, innovate and create. Sometimes internal red tape and white noise can destroy creative solutions. I provide my teams to opportunity to control their own timeframes and deadlines for delivery, so long as the companies and projects goals are not hindered. I've seen well-organised and motivated individuals strive in this type of environment, but it's not for everyone.

Need also to impart to them the importance of taking breaks to refresh the mind. Rest is key to sustain creativity. As a leader, consider a healthy work-life balance. You need to show them that it’s okay to unplug after work hours and prioritize well-being.
