Conduct assessments or surveys before the session to understand each participant's goals, skill levels, and specific needs. This information can help tailor your approach. If possible, divide the larger group into smaller breakout sessions based on similar goals or skill levels. This allows for more focused interaction and personalised feedback. Schedule brief one-on-one check-ins throughout the session. This can be done during breaks or designated times, allowing you to address individual questions or concerns.

In group training, balancing the session to address individual needs is crucial for fostering a supportive environment. Start by assessing each client's abilities through initial fitness evaluations or ongoing feedback, allowing you to tailor exercises to their skill levels. For example, if you have a mix of beginners and advanced participants, offer modifications for exercises like squats or lunges to accommodate everyone. Engage directly with clients by making eye contact and using their names during the session. This personal touch helps build rapport and encourages them to push their limits. Consider breaking into smaller groups for specific exercises, allowing for more focused coaching and personalized feedback.
-
Communicate openly and honestly with your clients. Listen actively when they tell you about their needs, provide constructive feedback, and adapt their training program accordingly. Regularly assess their motivation levels and adjust strategies as needed so that each client feels you're caring for them individually.

I work hard to provide personalized attention by creating an inclusive warm holding environment that begins before each client arrives. I’m the thermostat in the environment and I make sure that I enter with a clear heart and head, ready to serve the learning and the learners. I’m intentional about setting up a welcoming learning space with signs that actually say “Welcome, we’re so glad YOU are here!”. I meet and greet as many participants as I can and learn their name as they come in. I begin each training with some ground rules I bring and then lead them to co-create. I also have the room share what’s most important for them to take away and highlight those themes as we learn. Beginning well helps set the stage for engaged learning.

It is NOT your workout! The athletes in your class need your total attention, not your over the top workout show…..it is about them, not you!
