"LEARNING IS CONSISTENT PRACTICE" Implementation is the key. Motivate your team members to implement the learned strategies and case studies. Ask them to help and guide each other in tough times. If we handle the risk together, we can able to build a better future.

This is huge. I once read that continuous learning is a key ingredient to happiness. I think this can go a really long way when it comes to junior staff. Encouraging participation in webinars and conferences can make a big difference in someone's experience at a job in digital marketing. I often use the annual performance review as a moment to ask people to share what events, groups or conferences they're interested in attending, and try my best to make it happen for them. I always task them with coming back to the group and sharing at least 3 interesting things they learned. Understanding what's working outside of your own client/brand is absolutely critical to being successful in this space, no matter what the level.

In my experience, here are some innovative ways to create a learning program: - Personalized Learning Paths: Implement AI-driven platforms that tailor learning experiences to individual employee needs and career goals. I actually task my senior staff with owning certain areas of our team operations. It's impossible to handle every area on your own as a leader. You have to hire people who have functional expertise in areas where there are gaps in order to make yourself and your team stronger. That's also how you grow as an executive - hire people who know more than you and you will get stronger. I try hard not to make decisions that will impact my team without their knowledge or input. Nothing should be a surprise. This is a big way to build trust, and makes everyone feel like we're on the same page, marching toward the same goals.

Empowering team members and making sure they are co-owners of the work, decisions, and direction are key. But prior to that, as a leader, I have to make sure I clearly share the purpose of the work and why we are doing what we’re doing. If, and when, team members buy in to the purpose, each will find their own inspiration from within. However, there are instances when a team member doesn’t fully align with the purpose and the value we’re after. Regardless of the tactics used, inspiration will not come easy. It is no one’s fault. But it does warrant a genuine conversation between the leader and the team member to see if the team is actually a good fit.

The power of having a team is that they're going to see things differently from you. Their value comes from their fresh ideas, diverse perspectives and unique experience. Sometimes they're going to want to do something that seems like a bad idea, based on your experience. Weigh up the risk involved, is there a chance that these circumstances are different enough that it could work? If a fail isn't going to be catastrophic, encourage them to try anyway because they'll learn far more by experiencing something personally. As long as they reflect on what they'd do differently, they've learned a valuable lesson and will grow as a result. Ultimately they'll learn more from their failures than their successes.

As a leader of a digital strategy team, it’s crucial to recognise that your team consists of people, not machines. Regularly thank your team members for their contributions and acknowledge their strengths and talents. Support their well-being and work-life balance by offering flexibility, empathy, and compassion. Build a strong bond and relationship with your team, so they feel part of a close-knit community. This will not only boost their motivation and engagement but also help unleash their full potential, creating a multiplicator effect.

I try as much as possible to give people kudos for their impact in driving the team's success. If you want people to do more, appreciate them more.

An appreciated employee is a much more productive and motivated one. A team member who eagerly goes above and beyond is far more valuable than one who reluctantly does the bare minimum. Make sure to thank all team members for specific contributions to show that you truly value their skill sets and actions.

Also, I think that celebrate your team’s achievements and milestones is key. As a leader, make it a thing to highlight and recognize the successes of your team. Create a culture where successes, big and small, are celebrated. This could be through regular team meetings where you highlight individual and team achievements, or by sending out a company-wide email to recognize exceptional performance. Recognize not just the end results but also the effort and dedication that went into achieving them. This isn’t about sugar-coating mistakes, but rather about genuinely acknowledging their hard work.

Delivering on agendas: An Innovation Lab Approach While a digital strategy team may be very skilled, their approach could become predictably routine, leading to stagnation. An "Innovation Lab" scenario could be modeled, where the digital strategy team is encouraged to dedicate a portion of their time to experimental projects and "moonshot" ideas with an intermix of audience, brand, and product. Cross-Functional Digital Strategy Workshops A digital strategy team's initiatives may often hit roadblocks. Sometimes, this can be attributed to the lack of buy-in. A series of cross-functional digital strategy workshops, facilitating direct collaboration between the digital strategy team and other departments may be calendered quarterly.

Ultimately people believe what you do more than what you say. It's vital to model the behaviours that you want to see from your team. It's no good saying that work-life balance is important if you're always the last person to leave the office and you send emails outside working hours. And reward and praise the behaviours you want to see more of. I wanted my team to think more deeply about what activities were working and what were less successful. So I set up a monthly meeting for them to report back on those things and told them how much I valued their insights. They've really leaned into doing more of what works and less of what doesn't as a result.

Lead by example. The team needs to see that their perseverance will ladder up to both team work and personal growth. When they see a leader who inspires them, they will redouble their efforts. Demonstrate continuous learning. Show them you too have failed before you succeeded. Talk through your experiences, share examples, be generous with your knowledge. With every new technology that comes in, join them in workshops and customise webinars for them. Let them know that in the digital space, especially when thinking through strategy, collaboration is key - no single person can know everything in such a fast-paced domain. Encourage trendspotting and sharing in weekly meetings and let the team create a groundswell of know-how.
